　「O」は、ダニエル・ロイター（ルクセンブルク出身）と海原力による共同写真プロジェクトで、2024年の秋に大阪での1か月間の滞在期間中に撮影された写真で制作されました。

 

　撮影に入る前、アーティストたちは大阪の歴史上における画期的な出来事であり、1960年代のメタボリズム建築のショーケースでもあった1970年大阪万博の痕跡というテーマに惹かれていましたが、アーティストたちは、都市の周縁部に広がる人工島、工業地帯、そして住宅地が重層的に広がる広大な景観、大阪港へと焦点を広げました。

 

　結果として生まれた写真は、人間の野心とインフラによって形作られた断片的な地形を描いています。空中をループする高架道路、境界を示すフェンス、そして陸と海の間に移り変わる境界を形成する水路。二人の写真家のそれぞれ異なる、しかしお互いを補完するようなアプローチを通して見ていくと、『O』は、過去の未来ビジョンと現在の現実が交差する、流動的な都市としての大阪を浮かび上がらせます。

 

　この展覧会は日本とルクセンブルク共同創造を例示するものであり、ローマ出版による書籍『O』の出版と同時期に開催されます。

 

　展覧会「O」は、Kultur | lx – Arts Councilルクセンブルクの支援を受けて開催されます。

Daniel Reuter & Umihara Chikara

 

 

O is a collaborative photographic project by Luxembourgish artist Daniel Reuter and Japanese artist Umihara Chikara, created during a one-month residency in Osaka in 2024.

 

Initially drawn to the site of Expo ’70—a landmark moment in Osaka’s history and a showcase of 1960s Metabolism architecture—the artists expanded their focus beyond the former fairgrounds. Their research led them to the city’s port: a vast, layered landscape of artificial islands, industrial sites, and residential enclaves on the periphery of the metropolis.

 

The resulting images trace a fragmented topography shaped by human ambition and infrastructure: elevated highways looping through the air, fences marking boundaries, and waterways forming shifting thresholds between land and sea. Seen through the distinct yet complementary lenses of both photographers, O reveals Osaka as a city in flux, where past visions of the future meet the lived realities of the present.

 

The exhibition exemplifies Japanese-Luxembourg co-creation and coincides with the publication of the book O by Roma Publications.

 

The exhibition O is presented with the support of Kultur | lx – Arts Council Luxembourg.
